Wedding flowers, planned with the season

Bring us the feeling you’re after. We’ll plan your flowers around what’s growing in Southland that month, so everything is at its best on the day.

How a consult works

A cuppa, a chat and a plan

Consults are free and happen in the shop, at the bench, surrounded by what’s in that week. Most couples come in six to twelve months out, but it’s never too late to ask.

  1. Check your date

Ring us or send an enquiry below. We’ll check we’re free on your day and book a time to meet, Monday to Saturday.

  2. Meet us in the shop

About 45 relaxed minutes. We’ll look at colours, talk about the season and show you real stems that will be around on your day.

  3. Your plan and quote

Within a week you’ll get a written plan: what we’ll make, the colours and the flowers we expect to use, with a clear quote. A 25% deposit holds your date.

  4. Final numbers

Four weeks out we confirm numbers and any changes. Close to the day, we choose the very best stems for your colours.

  5. On the day

Everything is made fresh the day before and that morning, then delivered and set up at your venue, wherever it is in Southland.

Southland seasonal flower guide

What’s in season when

Flowers in season look better, last longer and cost less. Here’s roughly what to expect from local growers through the year.

  • Bunches of pink, white, cream and yellow tulips side by side at a flower market

    September to November

    Spring

Tulips, ranunculus, anemones, freesias, early daffodils, blossom branches and lilac. By late November, the first peonies.

  • A summery bunch of a sunflower, daisies, red alstroemeria and blue and purple flowers on old timber

    December to February

    Summer

Peonies in early December, then garden roses, sweet peas, delphiniums, cornflowers, scabiosa, lisianthus and the first hydrangeas.

  • A loose arrangement of dahlias, foxgloves and other autumn flowers in apricot, rust, cream and burgundy, in a cream vase on soft pink linen

    March to May

    Autumn

Dahlias at their best, hydrangeas in antique tones, chrysanthemums, rosehips, amaranthus and turning foliage.

  • A bouquet of white roses, purple heather and dark green foliage tied with a white ribbon

    June to August

    Winter

Hellebores, anemones, roses grown under cover, berries, native foliage, and dried flowers and grasses. Jonquils by August.

A guide, not a promise A late frost or a warm spell can shift things by a few weeks, which is exactly why we choose the final stems close to your day.

  • Photos of the outfits, or a fabric swatch if you have one
  • A few pictures you love, for the feeling rather than to copy exactly
  • A list of who needs flowers: bouquets, buttonholes, family
